Methodology

The project development follows a rigorous methodology to ensure the quality of delivery.

The key activities are:

1. Forest Planning & Afforestation Strategy

2. Community & stakeholder engagement

3. Biodiversity and ecological impact

These aspects of the project are developed in line with standards to ensure compliance and successful accrual of carbon credits.

1. Forest Planning & Afforestation Strategy

  • Site Eligibility & suitability:

Prior to contract conclusion, initial optometric satellite and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery are tested against the VCS standard and land-based surveys are carried out to ensure the best site choice is made

  • Species Selection:

Focused on planting the right trees, in the right places. Local stakeholders and experts in biodiversity, ecology and forestry advise on the most appropriate mix of trees  selected for the location

  • Nursery Development:

Early establishment of on-site nurseries capable of supporting up to 4,000 Hectares of Afforestation or Reforestation per annum.

  • Forest Design:

A mix of high-carbon sequestration trees and native broadleaf species for biodiversity enhancement.

Roads, fire breaks and other supporting infrastructure.

  • Measurement Reporting & Verification:

MRV ensures compliance & confirms that levels of carbon sequestration match forecasts & are validated by independent 3rd parties.

2. Community & Stakeholder Engagement

Our approach ensures local communities benefit directly from our projects:

  • Employment & Training:

Secure jobs and skills development in forestry and nursery management, management, monitoring and reporting

  • Agroforestry & Benefit-Sharing:

Supporting intercropping opportunities and sustainable timber and non-timber forest Products (NTFP’s)

  • Community Partnerships:

Engaging traditional leaders, local farmers, and district authorities to align goals with community needs for a generation. A dedicated Community Liaison Team manages engagement for long-term collaboration

3. Biodiversity & Ecological
Impact

Our afforestation projects aim to restore natural ecosystems and protect biodiversity:

  • Baseline biodiversity assessments aligned with IUCN species standards

  • High Conservation Value (HCV) principles

  • Monitoring and improving ecosystem services - soil health, water and air quality
